Guthrie Village

DCLT is Committed to Providing Affordable Housing Solutions

Durham Community Land Trustees (DCLT) has embarked on a mission to address the dire need for affordable housing in Durham. In the face of historical legacies of disinvestment, redlining, and highway construction, DCLT is working to revitalize neighborhoods and empower communities with hundreds of scattered site units.

As part of this mission, DCLT is taking proactive steps to address the housing disparities faced by veterans in the region by providing innovative solutions. Despite the recognition and discounts offered to veterans on service days, affordable housing remains a significant challenge for many post-service. DCLT is committed to changing this narrative with the launch of Guthrie Village.

Guthrie Village represents a bold, forward-thinking approach to veteran housing, featuring new 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units constructed using modular shipping containers. These units will provide veterans with a stable foundation for achieving economic security, be ADA accessible, while incorporating Universal Design Principles and sustainable building practices.

In addition to the housing itself, Guthrie Village will offer a range of supportive services tailored to the unique needs of veterans. These services will be provided by our partners, Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOACC).

The development will also feature amenities such as common areas, gardens, and shaded seating areas to enhance the overall living experience.

Through projects like Guthrie Village, DCLT aims to revitalize neighborhoods, add value to vibrant communities, and provide environmentally sustainable housing to low- to moderate-income households. The success of Guthrie Village relies heavily on community support, with DCLT dedicated to understanding the needs of City of Durham and its resident.
